Mummer Bummer

Jerry LaRosa, a Philadelphia man given to wearing costumes so flamboyant that Liberace himself might wince, wanted to come to Raleigh next month to make a spectacle of himself. But LaRosa won't be coming, and he's miffed about it.

PSU vs. Illinois

Penn State faces off against Illinois in Saturday's Homecoming game at noon. We'll be at Oh' Mulligans....

In honor of PSU's homecoming, we're calling for a white out. We'll have five XL official white out t-shirts still for sale. Just ask Brian.

There's always something to cheer for when Penn State takes the field and that's why I'm dedicating this email to the forgotten warrior of the gridiron, the punter.

Coming in when time gets tough, to drive the opponent backward, to pile the trench of yardage between the opposing quarterback and the goalline, the punter is a critical component of the defensive game. And Penn State has one of the best. Penn State senior Jeremy Kapinos (Springfield, Va.) is among the candidates for the Ray Guy Award, presented to the nation's top punter.

A four-year starter, Kapinos has 9,213 punting yards during his career. The Penn State record holder is Ralph Giacomarro, with 9,402 career yards, leaving Kapinos 190 yards from breaking the mark.

A note from Roger Williams, executive director of the Penn State Alumni Association:

As you may know from our home page, Liberty Mutual is sponsoring a coach of the year contest which Joe Paterno should win. Currently, he is only third in Division 1-A. Fans are invited to vote once a day for as long as the contest lasts. I urge you to join me in urging your members to help get him into first place.

Please vote now and see how easy it is.

Thanks for your consideration,

Roger
